Abhyanga (Ayurvedic oil therapy)
This classic full body treatment is performed with warm herbal oils designed to relieve stress, release toxins, and nourish the tissues. Unlike traditional deep tissue massage, the abhyanga uses a generous amount of oil, poured and rubbed in a choreographed sequence that encourages the mind to fall away and the body to find deep tranquility.
Abhyanga-Garshana (oil treatment + exfoliation)
A raw silk glove is used for lymphatic skin brushing followed by a warm herbal oil treatment. This dry brushing exfoliates the pores, mobilizes and removes excess toxins, stimulates the lymphatic system, increases heat in the body and prepares the skin for the application of herbal treatments or oils. This treatment is often followed by the swedana (steam) treatment to deepen it’s cleansing effects.
Abhyanga-Shirodhara (oil treatment + oil stream)
Abhy-Shiro pairs the classic full-body oil treatment with the Shirodhara, a quintessential treatment for calming the nervous system. After a full body oiling, warm oil is poured over the third eye and crown of the head. Stress and overwhelm don’t stand a chance in the face of this treatment. Deeply relaxing and restorative – our clients book this one by asking for “bliss therapy.”
Swedna (steam therapy)
Commonly done after an abhyanga or udvartina, this steam therapy dislodges toxins from deep within the tissues and eliminates them through the pores. Swedna relaxes the body, reduces tension, and opens the channels of circulation. Loosened impurities are eliminated through the sweat glands and gastrointestinal tract, thus purifying tissues and eliminating accumulated toxins from the body. Swedna promotes penetration of therapeutic oils deep into the bodily tissues. Especially in the winter, it feel so good to sweat!
Udvartina (herbal powder/paste therapy)
This is a vigorous full body application of an herbal powder and oil created to stimulate the lymphatic, digestive and circulatory systems. This treatment exfoliates and conditions the skin, and encourages the release of stagnant toxins accumulated in the lymphatic system. For best results this treatment can be combined with Swedna. Clients will take a long hot shower after the treatment, and coming out feeling “shiny and new”.
Udvartina-Swedna (herbal powder/paste therapy)
These two therapies combine to create the depest, most actively cleansing treatment we offer. This treatment draws out old toxins locked deep within your muscles, joints, and nerves, and then eliminates those toxins through the sweat glands. Detoxifying and powerfully rejuvenating.
Shirodhara (oil stream therapy)
This deeply relaxing treatment involves the rhythmic pouring of warm herbal oils over the third eye and crown of the head. It is designed to calm the mind, synchronize brain waves, enhance circulation to the brain, and treat a variety of head and neck complaints.

It is deeply soothing and designed to decrease dryness and itching, regulate air pressure, and mitigate tinnitus (ringing in the ears). This treatment offers the greatest results when done in a series.
Nasya (Sinus clearing)
This treatment is very popular in the Fall and Spring, when nasal congestion, allergies, and sinus pressure are at their worst. Starting with a vigorous head and neck massage, followed by herbal steam to open up the nasal passages, this treatment ends with the application of ginger drops into the nose. This is a great treatment for any chronic headaches, allergies, congestion, loss of smell, sneezing, or sinusitis. This is also a very effective treatment for insomnia, sunken or puffy eyes, or dark circles under the eyes. This treatment offers the greatest results when done in a series.

Particularly useful for back pain, sciatica and spinal injuries, Kati vasti can be used on any part of the body that would benefit from localized oil application. Warm analgesic oil is poured into a dough dam that has been placed over the site of pain and gently allowed to penetrate deep into the tissues.

Sometimes you just need to check out and get pampered a bit. Rosemary essential oil clears and sharpens the mind, and the head scrub encourages busy thoughts to settle. Then we pull all that energy down through the body with the foot massage, leaving an equable calm in its wake. It is amazing how much tension we hold in the head and feet, and how enjoyable it is to release it all!
Valley Ayurveda is such a beautiful and peaceful space. Brooksley is absolutely amazing! I have experienced her magical and soothing touch through Abhyanga, her great knowledge she has in Ayurveda and her very gentle and sweet soul really shines through. She cares so much about her clients. She is part of my team as I heal through my journey and I am so lucky to have her. I drive an hour just to see her and its sooo very worth it! :).
Brooksley's Abhyanga and Shirodhara treatment helped launch me out of very serious high stress hormones that were causing severe autoimmune damage to my joints. With just three treatments, my stress levels returned to almost normal. The hot oil massage pouring down on the forehead may have stimulated the pineal gland, which helps balance hormone levels in the body. Whatever the science, it worked magic on my over-worked body!
One of the reasons I moved to Northampton was because I knew Valley Ayurveda was there. As an Ayurvedic practitioner, myself, it was important for me to have other peers in close proximity. It was my good fortune to meet Brooksley and to have her association. She welcomed me with an open heart and soon we came to know each other on both a professional and personal level. Professionally, it was her that I turned to for treatments each year when doing my yearly cleanse. I found that her understanding of the "human condition(s)" and her sense of humility to be very grounding for me in these times of vulnerability. Thanks for being there.
Brooksley is one of the most amazing Ayurvedic practitioners I know. I had an oil massage that calmed me down and de-stressed me. It was just what I needed. Thanks Brooksley!
Brooksley of Valley Ayurveda has some of the most nurturing hands in the valley. She holds a tranquil space in which to still the mind and open the heart. Thank you for time and time again for bringing my body back to ease and harmony.
